“Belize has the most remarkable reef in the West Indies,” declared Charles Darwin-- and we agree! Typically, the second week in May kicks off Reef Week in Belize. With Belize’s Great Barrier Reef stretching 190 miles long from Mexico to Honduras, it is a part of the Mesoamerican Reef system and the second largest in the world. (Australia’s reef is first.)
Remember, there are no chain fast food restaurants in Belize. However, some of these road side stands that sell many items are called “fast food,” meaning they serve “grab and go” food and snacks for a few dollars, and do not have restrooms.
The Belize Zoo and Tropical Education Center is not like any zoo in the world, referred to as “the best little zoo in the world.” It is the number one tourist attraction in Belize and no trip to Belize is complete without visiting.
Che’il translates to “wild Mayan” and is the name of Julio Saqui’s chocolate. Mr. Saqui is a master chocolate maker and arguably the patriarch of promoting Maya culture in Belize.
